Canadian Hip Hop Takes Hold In Barrie, Canada

Barrie, Ontario, Canada hasn’t been and still remains an unknown entity when it comes to Hip Hop venues. In fact, most of Canada is guilty of this statement. Unfortunately, our beautiful country doesn’t seem to be capable at this point in time of ensuring that our Hip Hop culture is given a voice with which to express the many trials and tribulations of growing up in urban cultures north of the border...

Fortunately I had the great pleasure to attend one of the finest performances given by a great line up of Canadian Hip Hop talent performed at the Roxx nightclub located in the heart of Barrie on Dunlop street. Boasting great talent with the likes of Bishop and Choclair, Maestro, K.O. and the well known Jim Jones of Dipset up from the United States, Liquid Chrome gave the fans a well deserved showcase of some fine Hip Hop. Enough to quench the palate of the most music thirsty fan, these cats delivered what many thought wasn’t even possible. A safe, fun, and enthusiastic performance of down and dirty Hip Hop performances that I’m quite certain Barrie has rarely experienced in it’s lifetime. For those of us fortunate enough to have been present for this show, we were bombarded with some hard pounding beats a fantastic beat box display, a glimpse into the pairing of two fantastic rap artists (Choclair & Bishop) an old school showing of Canada’s most revered rap artist (Maestro), some up and coming new school Hip Hop a la K.O. and of course the ever popular American rapper Jim Jones of Dipset. The night was also definitely kept alive with a hardcore set by the world renowned DJ Baby Yu who kept the crowd hoppin’ in between sets with a fantastic twist of musical madness spun on the one’s and two’s. All in all the evening was worth every penny for all involved.

If this is the future of Hip Hop in Barrie, you can be sure that we want in. We need to keep our kids safe and off the streets. What better way than to bring the best in street music to them. Barrie has delivered the goods for the Hip Hop Scene and you can be sure that if the turnouts are anything like what was accomplished on this night, Barrie can expect some great Hip Hop and R&B shows in our fine city in the future.

Big Ups go out to the cats who made this show possible and here’s to the future of Hip Hop in Canada and our fine city of Barrie.
